Sunday City Walks
Between 5th September and 31st October 2004, guided walks around various parts of Liverpool and Merseyside will depart at 2 p.m. on most Sunday afternoons. The themes are as follows:
September 5th - ANYONE FOR TENNIS? Hear about an Olympic star, a silversmith and a puzzle on a walk round Bebington. Meet at Port Sunlight Station, Greendale Road, Wirral.
September 19th - LOOPING THE LOOP, THE LYDIATE WAY. A countryside walk revealing an area with a fascinating history. (Note: walk involves passing through some fields and unmade pathways). Meet at the Weld Blundell Arms, Southport Road, Lydiate.
September 26th - WALK OF FAITH: OLD SWAN. A walk visiting buildings of faith in and around Old Swan. Meet at the junction of Prescot Road and St Oswalds Street, Liverpool L13.
October 3rd - LIVERPOOL'S ANCIENT SHORELINE. A walk along the course of the Pool, around the site of the Old Dock and down the 'Strand', before the landscape changes. Meet at the Queen Square Information Centre, Liverpool L1.
October 10th - HOLLYWOOD OF THE NORTH EXPLORED. Another chance to celebrate Liverpool's success as a film location. Meet at the Queen Square Information Centre, Liverpool L1.
October 24th - WORKING CLASS HERO. A quarry, a dairy and a church fete: 'places I remember, though some have changed'. Meet at Woolton Post Office, Woolton Street, Liverpool L25.
October 31st - 'GHOST' CHURCHES IN THE CITY. On the eve of All Saints Day we visit sites of departed buildings once witnessing to Faith in the City. Meet at the Queen Square Information Centre, Liverpool L1.
