Sunday City Walks
Between 21st August and 30th October 2005, guided walks around various parts of Liverpool and Merseyside will depart at 2 p.m. on most Sunday afternoons. The themes are as follows:
August 21st - HOYLAKE-ON-SEA (SeaWalk). A Wirral waterside walk, including a preview of the RNLI Open Day. Meet at Hoylake Station, Merseyrail Wirral Line.
September 4th - FORMBY-BY-THE-SEA (SeaWalk). Stories of lifeboatmen, fishermen, smugglers, sand and the sea. Meet at Formby Station, Merseyrail Northern Line.
October 2nd - RECORDED FOR POSTERITY (SeaWalk). Some fascinating finds around the city centre - ships in stone, sculpture, mosaic and more. Meet at the Mersey Ferries terminal, Pier Head, Liverpool L3.
October 9th - GIVE A STREET A GOOD NAME. Bringing history alive with stories behind the names of some of our well-known streets. Meet outside the Merseytravel/Tourist Information Centre, Queen Square, Liverpool L1.
October 16th - THE LIFE & DEATH OF NELSON (SeaWalk). As Britain celebrates the Sea and prepares to celebrate Trafalgar Day (October 21st) we look at some links between Liverpool and the great Horatio Nelson. Meet at Moorfields Station, Liverpool L2.
October 23rd - WATERLOO THE BATTLE & WATERLOO MERSEYSIDE (SeaWalk). Hear tales of yesteryear on this walk, which explores the links between a significant historical event and a local suburb. Meet at Waterloo Station (Merseyrail Northern Line), South Road, Liverpool L22.
October 30th - ROUND THE WALLS OF CHESTER. We venture beyond our normal boundaries to discover the attractions of Chester. Meet under the Eastgate Clock. (From Chester railway station, via Wirral Line from Liverpool, take the free bus to Eastgate).
