ANNOUNCEMENT: New arts link up launched
At a meeting last evening a new networking body to be called Liverpool Heritage Forum was set up to exchange information between voluntary organisations concerned with a variety of cultural activities in the city. Over twenty representatives of local societies concerned with the history of Liverpool, with its museums and art galleries and with the performing arts, met at The Athenaeum, to launch this new move to share information about their activities and plans.
The meeting was addressed by Eileen Willshaw, Heritage and Historic Environment Manager of Liverpool Culture Company, who referred to the City Council's wish for voluntary bodies such as those represented at the meeting to be linked into the preparations for 2007 and 2008.
Andrew Pearce, who is Chairman of the Friends of National Museums Liverpool and who convened the meeting, said after the launch: "There is a huge amount of excellent work going on among volunteers in Liverpool to increase knowledge of the city's past, to preserve its heritage in the form of buildings, monuments and works of art in its museums and galleries and to continue the city's tradition of producing high quality performances of music and the dramatic arts. This new link will put local people interested in heritage and the arts more in touch with what is going on, will help them to co-ordinate their activities where they wish to do so and will be at the service of tourists who will increasingly wish to share our rich cultural traditions."
